The Artemisia Bugnon AbsinthExplore Set offers you three of Switzerland's finest, most famous absinthes: La Clandestine, Angélique Verte Suisse and the Absinthe Butterfly.

The distillery started off as a genuinely clandestine 'moonshine' absinthe operation during the Swiss absinthe prohibition. Claude Alain Bugnon later became the first legally-licenced absinthe distiller in the country following the end of the ban in 2005.

Description of the products

A strong taste and a complex aromatic palette characterise Angélique Verte Suisse. An exceptional novelty, full of harmony.

It is a true Swiss “Verte” from the Val-de-Travers made from 12 different plants, including angelica and grand wormwood. Its colour is obtained by the addition of a maceration of different aromatic plants, no artificial colouring is added.

Angélique Verte Suisse absinthe can also be qualified as the rebel and diabolic sister of the Clandestine. Indeed, it is stronger and more bitter, but is nevertheless as characteristic as the Swiss absinthes.



La Clandestine absinthe reveals a very complex aromatic palate and a subtly bitter finish.
Without doubt, this is one of the best La Bleue absinthes around.

Awarded the gold medal several times in contests, La Clandestine is distilled according to a recipe from 1935 including more than 10 plants.
This is one of the first absinthes to be distilled in the Val-de-Travers, the cradle of absinthe distillation. Its traditional, artisanal production uses only natural ingredients.

Butterfly Absinthe is inspired by an American absinthe from the early 1900s, produced in Boston just before the US ban on absinthe in 1912.



Thanks to a partnership between a passionate American absintheur and the skilful Swiss distiller Claude-Alain Bugnon, the Butterfly brand has been brought back to life.

Butterfly Absinthe has a complex aroma, with notes of citrus (especially lemon and mandarin), spices, and mint. Alongside this rather exotic profile is the powerful and unmistakeable scent of the renowned wormwood from the Val-de-Travers, the birthplace of absinthe. This delicious American-Swiss absinthe is easy to love.


The Bohème absinthe spoon fits snugly onto every average sized absinthe glass, and will be an eye catcher during the classic French ritual, but also the fire ritual.

Artemisia Bugnon, Swiss

Claude-Alain Bugnon was the first clandestine distiller granted legal status by the Swiss government in the spring of 2005.

For years he had been responsible for a certain quantity of bootlegged absinthe that brought so much attention and status to this small region. His ‘Clandestine' has been and is still considered by many to be the best Swiss La Bleue available today. Claude Alain's custom designed distilling apparatus is located at his premises in Couvet, a former butcher shop!

The alambics each have a capacity of 145 litres, and produce 95 litres of finished absinthe. They are single-walled, rather than duplicating the bain-marie system more commonly used in France. Claude-Alain feels that the fiercer heat gives better extraction of the herbs.

Thoroughly enjoyed this master distiller's sampler! La Clandestine is so refreshing and easy to drink that the little bottle lasted only 2 glasses in quick succession! Thank you Stephanie for opening up the world of absinthe to a local boy from Hawaii. Yes, I get my deliveries in exactly 2 weeks time with no breakage or customs problems. I will continue to order from your excellent service and one day, will post a detailed critique but for now & from this novice, simple statements of good or bad, like or dislike, will suffice. In the end we all honor our favorite distillers by enjoying their creations. I will be ordering La Clandestine, Butterfly, & Angelique again. Enough said.

Sampler sets are the way to go! They're the perfect way to try several absinthes before investing in a full bottle. The packaging is elegant, though it would be perfect if the spoon was actually affixed as depicted instead of left loose. No matter, though--this is an excellent selection. My favorite is La Clandestine...but it's up to you (or the lucky recipient if it's a gift) to choose his/hers.

Each vial contained about enough for two drinks which is enough to get a pretty good idea on if you like it or not. If you're looking to broaden your absinthe horizons, this is a great set.
