The bitters have earned their complex flavor from layers of chamomile, lemon, as well as various herbs and berries.
Through Adam Elmegirab's research and also the fine, naturally grown ingredients, this Spanish Bitters is in demand from barkeepers worldwide and produces wonderful effect in a large number of classic cocktails as well as in Adam's own creation, the Union Flip (see Cocktails).
THE UNION FLIP
Adam Elmegirab
1 Barspoon Caraway Seeds
1 Whole egg
37.5ml Appleton 8 Year Old
37.5ml Licor 43
4 Dashes Dr. Adam Elmegirab's Spanish Bitters
5ml Sugar Syrup
4 Crunches Black Peppercorn
Method: Muddle caraway seeds in base of mixing glass, add remaining ingredients and dry shake for five seconds. Fill with cubed ice and shake hard for a further ten seconds. Fine strain.
Glass: Liqueur
Garnish: Roasted tonka bean grated over top
Adam developed the Spanish Bitters for the Licor 43's UK competition. For the Union Flip (see cocktails), Adam wanted to revive the old recipe for spanish bitters from the 18th and 19th centuries. This bitter is characterized by dominant citrus and chamomile flavors, making it a very all-purpose bitter.
Initially conceived as a limited edition of six bottles, Adam was quickly contacted by so many cocktail enthusiasts and barkeepers who wanted to buy some of the rare stuff. The resonance from these precious bitters helped Adam decide to offer a somewhat larger, but still limited edition of the Spanish Bitters, so that you can also buy them here in our Online Shop.
Use it to enhance the flavor and aroma of your beverages and dishes.
Dr. Adam Elmegirab’s Bitters was established in 2009 from the same Scottish bartender and adviser who is known for the Jerry Thomas Project, whose goal is to recreate drinks described by the legendary “Professor”. Elmegirab explains the whole project with a wink of an eye and under false pretences, the real goal being to drink cocktails every day. But they shouldn't be just any cocktails. It's all about the bitters! Therefore Elmegirab's advertising slogan: “You can't buy happiness but you can buy bitters and that's kinda the same thing.“
